Winter Wren, Wilson's Snipe, and Mute Swan in McLean County, IL
On April 3, I found my first Wilson's Snipes of the year in a flooded field off of Highway 29 just South of Gridley. This "fluddle" would yield many more nice finds as it was to be a wet Spring and fluddles provide such nice habitat for shorebirds.
And a year of birding in McLean County would not be complete without spending some time with the Mute Swans at Tipton Park.
One of the special treats of late March and early April in central Illinois is the Winter Wren, but you have to be quick to see them let alone take a photograph. These tiny fellows don't sit still for long. I saw the one in the photo at the beginning of this post during a quick stop at Ewing Park before heading home.
